Mellor

James and Mary Ann Payne Mellor joined the church in 1844 in Leicester, England.  Mary Ann gave brith to twins just before the Horizon set sail for America.  She was not expected to live, but was taken on the ship just before it sailed.  Her family welcomed her with open arms and the two older girls, Louisa and Charlotte, cared for her and for the family as she recovered while the ship sailed for America.  When they arrived in the Iowa City Campground, time was taken to make their handcarts, prepare themselves for the trek and allow Mary Ann more time for her recuperation.  

Before they left England, James and his family were promised in two different blessings that the whole family would make it to the Valley.  In Mary Ann's blessing she was also promised that she would see her seed in Zion.  The promised blessings were totally fulfilled: Mary Ann gave birth to one more child three years after entering the Valley.  Both she and James lived into old age.  All of the children entered the Valley emaciated but alive, Clara had her feet frozen so that they did not grow bigger than a size three.  James, William, and John served missions and each of them had a great many descendants.

They had 12 children, 8 of whom lived to adulthood.

8. Clara Althera Mellor   b. 1853 d. 1921,  married:  James Allen Hill in 1873
9. Emma Marintha Mellor   b. 1853 d. 1899,  married:  Joseph  Bartholomew, Jr. in 1871
10. Elizabeth Mellor  b. 1856  d. 1856, Liverpool, England
11. Eliza Mellor  b. 1856  d. 1856, Liverpool, England
12. John Carlos Mellor   b. 1860  d. 1930,  married Eva Charlotte Dack  in 1879  -- 13 children
