Huntington

C. Allen Huntington was only 25 when he volunteered to be a member of the rescue company.  He had no idea what such a rescue was require, but he volunteered anyway!  How amazing it is to think that as he gave his commitment, his life for the Martin and Willie Companies, that his faith in his Heavenly Father, his love of the gospel, his caring for his brothers and sisters on the plans would bring him great joy as well as great hardship.  He was one of many who went down into the cold Sweetwater on that cold November day in 1856 with trust and love carrying many very grateful handcarters across hour after hour (Pg. 260).   The frigid water took its toll for him as well as the others who so lovingly did so.  Their health was never quite so robust as it once was and each of them suffered for the rest of their lives from the effects.  However C. Allen Huntington actually lived to be 64 years old (Pg. 342-3)!  Brigham Young later commented with that one act each of them had been assured “. . . an everlasting salvation in the Celestial Kingdom!” (Belated Emigrants of 1856, pgs 287-99, Improvement Era, 1914)
