Green/Harper
Elizabeth Green had a beautiful singing voice. When she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-saints at the age of 15, her aunt refused to allow her to continue to stay with her. Elizabeth had been staying with her aunt since her parents had died eight years before. She went to stay with and care for a friend who had consumption. Sad to say she contracted it herself and was unable to sing a note! On pages 38-9 is recorded the miraculous story of a desire she had to join with the Saints in America, a priesthood blessing and a determination to fulfill its instructions. Her beautiful voice did eventually ring out across the plains as some were laid to rest or as hymns were sung. On page 160 Elizabeth develops a lovely relationship with her cart mate, Mary Harper forty-one years her senior, and eventually carries her on the handcart until this dear sister is called home. The deep relationship these two developed was instrumental in helping Elisabeth’s health to improve immensely while preparing her to meet her future husband (Pg. 333). Elizabeth’s and/or Mary’s great story are presented on pages: 86, 107, 161, 194, 196, 218, 220, 228, 270-1, and 333.
