Batchelor

Slated to leave the Iowa Campground the following day with the Willie Handcart Company, Emma Batchelor renewed friendships which began in England with the Paul Gourley family who would travel with the Martin Company.  (Pg. 80-1) Emma left the Willie Company at Fort Laramie, Wyoming and joined the Gourley family when the Martin Company arrived.  (183-4) She lovingly assisted the family any way she could.  She carried little Paul Gourley (2 years old) through the Last Crossing of the Platte River after taking their handcart first. (Pg. 209)  With her doctoring skills, she delivered Ellison Gourley of a beautiful baby girl after the snow had begun and before the rescuers arrived.  (Pg. 233)   After arriving in the Valley she met and married a famous man after only knowing him for four days.  Find out on page 334 who this was and what she did with her doctoring skills for the rest of her life.
